TenePass rental certificates provide standardized rental scores through structured evaluations. Before a case is reviewed, each applicant is linked to a certificate type that defines how their information will be assessed. This system ensures consistency, clarity, and fairness across all evaluations.
In the Netherlands, TenePass currently supports two certificate types: Starter Certificate and Standard Certificate. The right choice depends on the availability and timeline of documentation provided by the applicant.
Starter Certificate
The Starter Certificate is mostly a rental certificate for expats. It is used when Dutch financial documentation is limited or recently established. This applies to individuals who have just arrived in the country, recently started a job or study program, or do not yet have multiple Dutch payslips or bank statements.
Evaluation is based on what is currently available. This can include signed employment contracts, proof of income, relocation support, or guarantor documentation. The Starter Certificate allows for early-stage evaluations while maintaining accuracy and fairness.
Standard Certificate
The Standard Certificate is used when an applicant can provide at least two months of Dutch financial documentation. This includes items such as recent payslips, bank statements showing income deposits, and municipal registration records (BRP).
Because more data points are available, the evaluation provides a fuller picture of the applicant’s financial readiness. This certificate type is ideal for individuals with an established presence in the Netherlands.
Score Comparison Logic
Each certificate type is evaluated using a separate scoring model that reflects the depth and reliability of available information. For this reason, scores are only compared within the same certificate type. A score from a Starter Certificate is never ranked against a score from an Established Certificate. This preserves fairness and prevents disadvantages for applicants who are just beginning to build their financial profile in the Netherlands. Landlords and agencies reviewing applicants can filter by certificate type to ensure comparisons are appropriate.
